We are the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Boise State University Chapter. Our club focuses on improving the professional, academic, and personal skill set of its members. SHPE was founded in Los Angeles, California in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.
The concept of networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the entire nation including Puerto Rico. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation. Over the years, SHPE chapters have opened up membership to other ethnicities as well as other STEM majors.
SHPE hosts Regional Leadership Development Conferences annually for all SHPE members to improve their organizational, managerial, and technical skills. They take place in each of the seven SHPE regions. This conference helps students develop and improve their pre-college outreach programs as well as the infrastructure of their student chapters. Students also learn how to interact and network with SHPE's corporate supporters.
The Boise State Chapter has been selected to host the Region 3 Regional Leadership Development Conference at Boise State University in 2018 from March 1st - 3rd.
Please help us achieve our goal to cover the cost of hotel rooms, meals, and keynote speakers. We are expecting a total attendance of 250+ high school, college and graduate students. We aim to connect college students with professionals in order to increase their professional network and provide them with the opportunity to learn from their experiences. We want our attendees to gain the inspiration to continue on with their degree and to know that their goals and dreams are within reach if they're willing to work for it. We also want to show students the beautiful City of Boise, as well as urge them to apply to our graduate schools and local businesses. Please donate and share our page to make this the best conference possible!
Thank You,
Roy Olvera, President of SHPE-Boise State
