A Heartfelt Thank You

December 23, 2017

Thank you to all who helped our senior Literature class to Put Books in Every Home this fall!

As we enjoy our holidays, and some of us get used to our new identity as Boise State December graduates, we are grateful to all of the wonderful people who helped us reach, and far surpass, our goal. Because of your help, we were able to give away 500 books! Our class personally read to over 150 children in six first-grade classrooms and two third-grade classrooms at Title I schools in Boise. We received generous support from the first to the last day of our campaign!

Your contribution allowed us to select the books we most wanted to share with new readers and to make sure every child received a copy of the book we read aloud to her group. Our nonprofit partner Book It Forward added enough gently used books to double our capacity to reach classrooms and kids.

Not only did your donation help us spread literacy, but you also supported our academic and professional development in our final year at Boise State. Your support means so much!

Sincerely,

Shannon, Amanda, Brennen, Emily, Marcus

In-kind Gifts Stretching Us Almost to Four Classrooms on Our Last Day

November 04, 2017

THANK YOU, generous donors who have supported our Boise State project to put Books In Every Home. You have helped us fill book bags for our first two classrooms and to hire a Boise State student artist to illustrate a children’s book called “Adventures with Animals Big and Small,” created from our research in the nineteenth-century children’s magazine St. Nicholas. Thanks to you, we will give sixty copies of our own book to children we visit.

Two in-kind gifts have challenged us to raise another $150 on this last day of our campaign. We are just that close to filling book bags for FOUR classrooms!

Author Eric Drachman of California-based Kidwick Books is sending a case of his award-winning picture books with audio CDs. On the CDs, Drachman and other actors perform the stories to a light musical soundtrack, making the inspiring stories of his problem-solving characters come to life.

Boise nonprofit Book It Forward! Idaho, an agency that collects gently used books and passes them on to families in need, is donating all the used books they have on hand in our first grade age target, plus a Barnes and Noble gift certificate for more new books.

Today, we will join Book It Forward! volunteers at Barnes & Noble on Milwaukee Street for kids’ readings and activities and raffle baskets for old and young. Book It Forward! will be there with the raffle and activities from 11 to 4. Members of our class will read from the books you’ve helped us to make or buy between 2 and 4. Mention Book It Forward when you buy any book, and Barnes and Noble will make a donation to replenish what that agency has donated to us.

To hear Eric Drachman’s free audio books and samplers online, visit his website at kidwickbooks.com. Click on any book page to hear a sample and see the pages, or download audio files for a complete audio version. Some highlights include Dr. Penry’s favorite, “Leo the Lightning Bug,” or educationally themed “Bad Rats” (Hint: Professor Periwinkle has some learning to do), or “A Frog Thing,” with a gentle lesson for parents as well as kids, or the jazzy "Ellison the Elephant."

We hope you have a chance to treat yourself to literacy activities today at Barnes and Noble or a Kidwick audio download at your leisure. Watch our website to see if we've made it to $1,780 and four classrooms today! Thank you for your support!

Stretching Our Campaign to Reach More Children

October 18, 2017

Wow! 125%! Thank you for giving us the means to order a great selection of new books for every first grader at Whittier Elementary in Boise. With two weeks remaining in our campaign, we are now aiming for our stretch goal of an additional $1000. When we reach it, we will visit a second Title I school to send another class of early readers home with new books for the Thanksgiving holiday. Rediscovered Books in downtown Boise will donate as many bags as we can find children. Together let's fill them for another school!

100% and Still Going!

October 17, 2017

Thank you to the donors who zoomed us past our campaign goal in just three days and counting. You've given us a clear message: More books, More kids! We hear you, and you have only made us more enthusiastic about a project we loved already. Your generosity allows us to purchase new books for the first graders we visit in November, and you have challenged us to reach out farther. To this we say: Yes!

50% in a day!

October 15, 2017

We would just like to thank everyone that has donated for helping us towards our goal. It is truly astounding to see so many people that care about getting a book in every home as much as we do! Thank you for helping us to reach 50% of our goal so early, we will be able to start purchasing books this week because of your generosity. Please remember to share our cause with friends and family!
