Scott's Legacy Continues Because of You

September 17, 2016

Thank you for your incredible generosity! Together, we have raised $51,584 to endow the Scott Willison Memorial Scholarship and continue the incredible work of a Boise State and community leader. Many students face challenges they must overcome to attend college. Lowering those barriers was the work Scott dedicated himself to. Because of you, we have endowed this scholarship to support a student who has overcome those types of obstacles and connect them with a faculty mentor during their time at Boise State. Thanks to you, Scott's legacy will continue forever!

$50,000! Thank you for continuing Scott's legacy!

September 09, 2016

Thank you to everyone who has provided support for the Scott Willison Memorial Scholarship. We are overwhelmed at the outpouring of support and generosity to help bring the scholarship to the minimum endowment level and continue Scott’s legacy.

And, we have great news – an anonymous donor has contributed an additional $10,000 which also unlocks the Dean’s second match of $12,500! That brings our total so far to over $50,000 which will provide scholarship funds that will make a significant impact on the lives of the recipients. Thank you so much!

The far-reaching impact of Scott Willison

September 08, 2016

Scott Willison was six feet four inches of heart.  To know Scott was to be welcomed into that great big heart.  Scott’s passion for others, especially the less privileged, was always clear. He was always quick to jump into action to fight against injustice wherever and whenever he saw it.  His dedication to students and forcing them to uphold high standards of character and intellect is legendary.  Scott’s tireless efforts on behalf of low income, first generation, migrant, and Native American students may be his biggest professional legacy.  Both directly and indirectly Scott Willison improved the lives of thousands of young people and their families.  Personally, Scott was a role model for me.  He was a mentor, confidant, writing partner, lunch partner and practical joke buddy for 19 years at Boise State.  His crooked smile and boisterous voice are imprinted in our hearts forever.

This scholarship will truly help Scott’s impact to carry on in the lives of the students who will benefit. Thank you for your generosity. Please help keep momentum on this campaign going by sharing with your network.

Wow- in less than two days we are over 100%!

August 18, 2016

There are not enough words to say thank you for your generosity in helping carry on Scott's legacy by bringing this scholarship to the minimum endowment level. Instead, these photos shared by his friends and colleagues demonstrate the impact of his work.

Collectively, we raised over $6,500 in less than two days, unlocking the Dean's generous match of $12,500, which brings our scholarship to the minimum endowment level of $25,000. This will provide approximately $1,000 in scholarship funds each year in perpetuity to help provide support for students in need attending Boise State University.

Thank you so much to everyone who has given so generously! Since many people have not had time to contribute, we have a new challenge -- can we raise another $12,500 in the time remaining in the campaign? If we can, Dean Osguthorpe has offered another match of $12,500 which will double the impact and provide double the amount of scholarship funding each year. Will you help by sharing this project with friends and family? Thank you again.

We made it over 25% of our goal - a message from Dean Osguthorpe

Thank you all so much for your generous gifts toward the Scott Willison Memorial Scholarship PonyUp campaign. With your help, we are already 27% of the way to our $6,500 goal. Remember to keep sharing with your friends and family because when we reach that goal, the College of Education will unlock a matching gift of $12,500 to bring the scholarship to the full endowment level of $25,000 and help cement Scott's legacy.

Choose a giving level

For years, Scott directed Summer Academy, a K-8 enrichment camp for local youth in partnership with the Center for School Improvement and Policy Studies.

26 Years

Scott was a family man, dedicated to Jenny, his wife of 26 years, and his three children. He was Jenny's best friend, her biggest cheerleader, and kitchen dance partner.

42 Million

While Scott’s leadership and contributions to programs in CMEO, CAMP, HEP, and TRiO can be quantified in an excess of $42 million, it is best captured in the awe-inspiring and heartwarming stories of thousands of young people whom he helped defy the odds and achieve remarkable success in their schooling and future life pursuits.

Scott joined the faculty at Boise State University in 1997, where he became a daunting force for good in the College of Education and the university overall.

March 29th

Scott was born March 29, 1959, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

700 Students

Scott helped empower students through a CMEO grant that today continues to provide career counseling, educational workshops, intensive advising and more for 140 students each year. More than 700 students will be impacted by this legacy over the span of five years.

1989-what a year!

Of all the gifts he gave to his friends, the greatest was Jenny, who stirred his soul. They married in 1989, the same year he received his doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
