On March 17, 2016, Lyle Smith celebrates his 100th birthday. For many, Lyle Smith is often considered the Father of Boise State Athletics and a true Bronco legend. Lyle served as head football coach at Boise Junior College from 1947-1967 and full-time Athletic Director of Boise State College and now Boise State University from 1968-1981. He helped oversee the transition from a two to a four year school, in addition to countless other accomplishments in athletics, paving the way for Boise State University to reach new levels of success.
In honor of Lyle's 100th birthday, we invite you to help us reach our goal of 100 donors and play an important role in continuing his legacy by supporting Boise State student-athletes.
Coach Smith was called to active duty during the 1950 season for the Korean War. Coaching the last game before his departure, his players carried him off the field after the victory over Ricks College. Coach Smith served 31 years in the military in both active and reserve roles.
All gifts to the Lyle 100 campaign are eligible for existing Bronco Athletic Association membership benefits.
