What if Boise State students could hear other Broncos’ stories … today? In ten years? Fifty years? And how might learning more about fellow Broncos’ journeys to Boise State create an even greater sense of community, empathy, and belonging? These are just the kinds of research questions Shared Stories Lab was launched to explore.
What we do know is a new, permanent collection of campus members’ stories will fill an oral history gap in Boise State's Albertsons Library Special Collections and Archives. We also know that creating opportunities for listening and understanding are essential to developing healthy, vibrant communities.
Shared Stories Lab is dedicated to facilitating and supporting oral history and storywork throughout Boise State and our surrounding communities.
Shared Stories Lab students are preparing to interview our first set of participants—underrepresented campus members—to give their voices and stories a place in the library’s archives. But we need multimodal recording equipment. In our research, we discovered that some participants prefer to be recorded by audio while others prefer video and still others prefer to draw or show visuals to feel comfortable sharing about their paths to Boise State.
A donation to Shared Stories Lab will help us obtain the equipment necessary make this collaborative oral history collection happen.
From the Shared Stories Lab team, past, present, and future, thank you!
When you help fund equipment through a donation, you help create space for campus community stories and affirm their value.
For $25, you can cover the cost of a protective case to make sure the equipment we purchase lasts.
For $50, we can purchase a lapel microphone, to make sure the stories we collect are heard.
$125 covers the cost of an iPad Pencil, which will allow storytellers to draw a digital map of their path to Boise State.
For $500, you cover the cost of an iPad AIR, which will allow us to capture videos of the interviews.
Equip our project with 1 technology kit to collect hundreds of Boise State student stories: an iPad Pro, iPad pencil, microphone, and adapter. iPad Pros allow our participants to draw and narrate their paths to Boise State.
