The Boise State University family mourns the passing of Keith Stein. Our thoughts are with the Stein family as we remember Stein for his generous gifts to Boise State to resurrect our marching band. Our memory of Keith Stein lives on with every note. And he’s more than in the music—he’s in our hearts forever. The Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band will march on in Stein’s memory to stir the spirit of Bronco Nation.
Blue Thunder Marching Band is an integral part of every Bronco fan’s game day experience, not to mention a source of pride across the university. Over 10,000 man-hours of rehearsal time go into preparation for game day performances. The energy the band provides at football games doesn't go unnoticed.
The photo above was taken during the band's visit to Reno in 2014 for the game against the University of Nevada. From the early 2000s to 2013, the Boise State football team and traveling fans had only experienced the presence of Blue Thunder at Albertsons Stadium and bowl games. With appropriate funding, however, the band has lifted that Bronco atmosphere at one away game each of the past three seasons. Our campaign goal will help continue this great tradition.
In addition, the band has also had success recruiting on their past trips. During their visits to Reno and Provo, the group has played before area high school bands. Rarely do high school students get to experience watching an out-of-state college band perform. Finally, the social bonding within sections helps the band create a much desired family atmosphere throughout the season. Oftentimes members of the band become lifelong friends through their interactions and experiences as members of the Blue Thunder.
