Explore. Evaluate. Educate. Enhance.

The Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) is a space where teaching, research, and service converge to benefit students, faculty, staff and Idaho  - helping individuals achieve peak performance, avoid injury, and recover health in pursuit of living a healthy life.

The HPL is in need of a cornerstone piece of equipment: a replacement Dual X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) Scanner.

What is a DEXA Scan?
A DEXA scan provides information on an individual’s total body composition and bone density. DEXA is the best standardized method available to diagnose osteoporosis and is an accurate estimator of fracture risk - providing medical professionals and exercise scientists with crucial data to inform performance and healthcare decisions.

Who does the DEXA help?

Boise State Students

Learning how to use the DEXA is an educational requirement for certain degree programs. The new DEXA will enhance experiential learning and help meet Idaho's need for skilled imaging technologists.

Student-Athletes

The DEXA helps empower college and youth athletes to achieve their potential in human performance and maintain their health - both while they are athletes and after they retire.

Women and Girls

The DEXA provides an opportunity to enrich women's health and wellness through research, service and teaching.

Campus & Community

DEXA scans are available for members of the Boise State community, as well as the general public, so they can make informed healthcare decisions.
